Help Your Family Navigate Media at Comcast’s Free Parental Controls Seminar

In a world of technology and screen time, if you’re a parent, you might feel overwhelmed about how to make sure your kids are seeing age-appropriate TV shows, games or websites. On the other hand, with all the good technology can bring, most parents don’t want to cut their kids off from technology.

That’s why Comcast and the Daily Herald are co-sponsoring a free Parental Controls Seminar in Provo on Saturday, Jan. 25. The seminar is meant to help parents make electronic media work for their families. You’ll learn from national media and child health experts about things like how media affects children, the content you might be concerned about, how to use technology in a beneficial way and what options you have to implement parental controls.

You don’t want to miss the keynote speaker, Dr. Michael Rich. He’s a pediatrician, world-renowned researcher specializing in media and child health, and director of the Center on Media and Child Health at Boston Children’s Hospital. He’ll talk about how families can balance their children’s wellness with the media environment and technology, and answer your questions.

Then, an expert panel will share their thoughts on:

  • How families can use technology in good ways
  • How to help develop relationships between parents and kids in a digital age
  • How to talk to your kids about what they see
  • How to decide what is and isn’t appropriate for your family
  • Tools to help you implement parental controls

Jim Janco, Comcast’s national director of product and operational compliance, will then walk parents through the technological options for parental controls.

Bring your friends, family and neighbors to learn about keeping kids safe and making media something the whole family can enjoy at this free, open-to-the-public seminar. Registration is requested and will open prior to the seminar from 8:30 to 9 a.m. on Jan. 25, at the Utah Valley Convention Center, 220 W. Center Street Suite 200 in Provo.
