From Service to Startups: Utah Veterans Power the State’s Innovation Economy

Minnow Tank Pitch Fest, hosted by the Utah Veteran Business Resource Center (VBRC).

Utah consistently ranks as one of the best states to start a business, number 1 for economic outlook and #2 in startup activity nationally.*

That spirit of innovation was on full display at the Minnow Tank Pitch Fest, hosted by the Utah Veteran Business Resource Center (VBRC).

The event featured graduates of VBRC’s STRIVE Program—veteran entrepreneurs building startups across tech, health, agriculture, and retail. With training, mentorship, and access to capital, these military-connected founders are helping future-proof Utah’s economy.

Celebrating Utah’s Veteran Startups

Comcast proudly presented the $5,000 Sponsor Choice Award to Mortal Triumph, a purpose-driven apparel brand led by U.S. Navy veteran Eduardo Marquez. The award brought his total prize funding to $9,000—supporting his mission to empower others through grit-inspired gear.

Eduardo called the experience transformative.

“This forced me to refine my idea and answer hard questions. I practiced, I prepared, and it showed.”

His advice to fellow veterans:

“Believe in your business. Take it seriously. And most of all—just start.”
