COMCAST AND NBCUNIVERSAL LOOK AHEAD AT INAUGURAL HACKATHON

NBCUniversal and Comcast will jointly present their first hackathon – themed “Help Shape The Future of Media & Technology” – June 21-22 at the new NBCUniversal Technology Center’s Media Labs and at 30 Rock’s Studio 8H, home to Saturday Night Live. Over a 24-hour period, hackathon competitors will work on innovative cross-platform solutions using content, products, and technology from an array of NBCUniversal’s and Comcast’s entities and divisions, including CNBC, USA, NBCNews.com, Universal Pictures, TV Everywhere, Telemundo, Universal Home Entertainment, NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations, and Comcast Cable. Additionally, select television and media “uber-fans” will be on hand to provide the perspective of the television and media power-user.

AngelHack, the premier developer relations network which organizes hackathons globally and has a vast start-up ecosystem, has been tapped to organize the “Comcast NBCUniversal Hackathon.” The company will help secure participants by reaching out to their network of developers, particularly those who have a track record of creating products for digital media and/or television. In addition to Application Program Interfaces (API) from the NBCUniversal and Comcast properties listed above, Hackathon teams will also have access to APIs from Beamly, Gracenote, thePlatform (an independent subsidiary of Comcast), and Radius Networks‘ proximity solutions. APIs give programmers open access to data and services, so participants won’t have to write their applications from scratch.

Judges – including venture capitalists, tech influencers, NBCUniversal and Comcast executives – will select winners in a variety of categories. Participants will vie for cash prizes, the opportunity to pitch their ideas to NBCUniversal and Comcast, and NBCUniversal product.
