HOW DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION DRIVE INNOVATION

By Cecilia Isaacs-Blundin, Director, Diversity Communications, Comcast Corporation in Diversity

Whether you’re looking for full episodes of favorite television shows, box office hits, relevant news headlines, community resources, or viewing recommendations, you can find it on the redesigned, easy-to-navigate Xfinity.com/LGBT.   Not just during Pride Month, but all year long, we take great pride in providing the best entertainment experiences for all audiences — on TV, On Demand, and Online.  Xfinity.com/LGBT does that, and more, in a variety of ways, offering customers online access to a wealth of content that is especially meaningful to the LGBT community.

But Comcast and NBCUniversal’s commitment to the LGBT community extends far beyond the redesigned Xfinity.com/LGBT web portal.  Our uniquely inclusive corporate culture embraces diverse perspectives, which leads to innovative ideas.  One company initiative of which I am especially proud is Comcast and NBCUniversal’s Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) focused on the LGBT and Straight Ally community.  Our ERGs engage people at all levels of the organization, empowering employees to drive exceptional business results while supporting an inclusive, collaborative company culture.  I am honored to serve as a Co-Lead of OUT@Comcast, which works to enhance the company’s reputation for LGBT inclusion among our employees, customers, and community while supporting the company’s goal of creating an environment where all employees – including LGBT employees and their allies – are comfortable bringing their authentic selves to work every day.  We offer members professional development, networking, and community service opportunities, and serve as a resource for various business units.  OUT@Comcast and OUT@NBCUniversal have an exciting slate of Pride Month activities lined up, including participation in several Pride parades and celebrations, as well as an employee enrichment series.

Comcast and NBCUniversal also offer transgender-inclusive health benefits and other employment and leave benefits to same sex domestic partners.  We support LGBT-owned businesses and are corporate partners of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.  We also have a rich history of showcasing groundbreaking LGBT programming and talent, which were most recently recognized with four GLAAD Media Awards.  And through cross-platform promotion and philanthropic support, Comcast and NBCUniversal serve as awareness partners for numerous organizations that promote LGBT inclusion, respect, and equality.  These are just a few of the many reasons why, for the second year in a row in 2014, Comcast and NBCUniversal earned a 100% score on the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) Corporate Equality Index (CEI), and the company is named among HRC’s “Best Places to Work.”

There are countless reasons to have pride at Comcast and NBCUniversal – for me, it’s because I work at a company where diversity and inclusion are business as usual.
