If you’ve ever wanted to be on the ice with an Olympic gold medalist, Saturday is your chance. Bring the whole family to the Olympic Oval or Peaks Arena for a free community skating party on January 18 with 2002 gold medalist Sarah Hughes. Sarah will pose for photos, so bring your camera. Anyone attending is welcome to use a free photo from her 2002 Olympic long program, or bring something from home for her to sign.

Sarah will make appearances at two free skating parties on Saturday. Anyone is welcome, and skate rentals and admission are free. You’ll get hot cocoa, treats, hours of skating fun to live music from a DJ, as well as games and prizes.

We hope you’ll get in the spirit of the games by joining folks from around Utah at this fun ice skating party. Drop in any time to skate with friends, family and neighbors, or come when Sarah will be there to get a photo and autograph.

Both parties are this Saturday, Jan. 18, so make sure to mark it down for a fun day with family!

Peaks Arena

–          Skating Party is 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sarah will be there from about 3:30 to 5 p.m.

Then keep your schedule open for the next Saturday, Jan. 25, to attend the Parental Controls Seminar in Provo. XFINITY from Comcast knows parents want to give their kids access to the varied technology available today. However, doing that can sometimes mean exposing your kids to content that isn’t appropriate for their age.

That’s why XFINITY and the Daily Herald put together a Parental Controls Seminar to help Utah parents navigate the complicated media landscape. Come to the Utah Valley Convention Center on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to hear from experts in media and child development. You’ll learn about the effects of media on children and what you can do to make media work for your family. The seminar is free and open to the public.

More details will be available on this site next week, including a full schedule and guest lineup.
