Comcast Celebrates the Best and Brightest High School Seniors in Utah

Through the Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program – which has awarded more than 28 million to nearly 27,000 students since 2001 – Comcast NBCUniversal awards college scholarships to local high school seniors.

This year, thirty-four Utah students received $51,000 in scholarships for the 2018-2019 school year and are now more equipped to pay for college expenses. In addition to the $1,000 scholarships, Mellisa Mellin from Park City High School was selected to receive an additional $9,000 Comcast Founders Scholarship, and two students, Jenna Nguyen from the Academy of Math, Engineering & Science and Briggs Miller from Grantsville High School received additional $4,000 Comcast Founders Scholarships.

The scholarships were announced on Wednesday, June 20 in the Utah State Capitol rotunda with Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes as the Keynote Speaker.

“The best thing we do as state leaders is invest our time, energy, and resources in the development of the next generation,” said Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes. “We have a responsibility as a State to build opportunities for the future and empower the youth of today to be the leaders of tomorrow. I am proud of Comcast, its employees and their efforts to recognize students who are already difference makers and have a hunger to do more. The Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program makes a lasting impact, not only in the lives of these youth, but in our cities, our state, and beyond.”

The Leaders and Achievers program, funded by the Comcast Foundation, recognizes outstanding high school seniors who strive to achieve their full potential, who are catalysts for positive change in their communities, who are involved in their schools, and who serve as models for other students.
